Empty Headings

Field is open but blank

ISSUE:

An empty heading occurs. Typically, this issue is identified when a heading field is left open but is left blank. 

INSTRUCTIONS: Once you open the workarea and look at the smart form - if you see a printscreen that depicts what you see in the Ektron smart form, follow the instructions above that particular printscreen.

How to fix:

  • In the workarea
  • Open the smart form or content block containing the missing heading
  • Click the drop-down button and choose REMOVE from the list

If the portion of the page identified with the issue in Siteimprove looks like the print screen below...

and you are NOT using any of the List / Link fields in the Paragraph section (shown below) follow the instructions above the first print screen for this issue as well.  Use the drop-down button and choose REMOVE from the list to delete the empty paragraph section.

If you ARE using the List / Link fields in the Paragraph Section follow the instructions below to delete the  hidden content in the Paragraph Copy field while leaving all the links alone.

  • click the Paragraph Copy field edit button.  
  • Place your cursor at the bottom of the white space and click. Answer these questions:
    • Where does the cursor start blinking? Is it a few lines below the top left corner of the white space? 
    • Is it blinking a character or two, or three to the right of the top left corner of the white space? 
    • If the answer to either question is yes, place your cursor at the bottom of the white space and backspace until you cannot backspace anymore.

If this does not fix the issue, please email stateweb@admin.nv.gov and ask for assistance.  Please provide the URL to the page the issue appears on and the issue you want us to resolve.

    A field is there and it contains text you need, but no heading you can see

    There is a field in the smart form but it doesn't contain a heading you can see.  If Siteimprove is indicating there is an empty heading on a page, and it is above or below other text that you need, but you can't see a heading. Edit the Paragraph Copy field containing all the text in the indicated Paragraph Copy field and follow the 8 steps below.

    1. edit the Paragraph Copy field.  
    2. Copy all the text in the field, 
    3. click the save button.  
    4. Create a new paragraph, 
    5. edit the new Paragraph Copy field, 
    6. click in the white space, 
    7. then click on the Paste as Plain Text button and CTRL + V to paste the text into the plain text box, which should strip all the excess code you can't from the text you copied.

    8. Click OK.

        There is no heading field

        Open the smart form containing the issue.  If you don't see a field that is empty that you can delete, and there is no Paragraph Copy field containing the heading that you can see, follow the procedure below.

        1. edit the Paragraph Copy field.  
        2. Copy all the text in the field, 
        3. click the save button.  
        4. Create a new paragraph, 
        5. edit the new Paragraph Copy field, 
        6. click in the white space, 
        7. then click on the Paste as Plain Text button and CTRL + V to paste the text into the plain text box, which should strip all the excess code you can't from the text you copied.

        8. Click OK.

          If the above procedure above does not eliminate the issue, email the url of the page to stateweb@admin.nv.gov and notify us of the issue, as the issue is in the code.  Typically, this occurs when users copy information from a document, the internet, etc. and do not use the paste as plain text button when importing the information.  Code from the other document is brought into Ektron and it has left behind an empty heading tag that must be removed from the code.
