Why are we doing this?

Nevada is committed to providing equitable access to services for all its citizens. As part of this commitment, all State agencies providing public information and services have obligations under the Federal American's with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Related to Title II of the ADA, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 404) regarding website accessibility for the disabled, the State of Nevada has been working with the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) to receive recommendations and take steps to further our efforts to improve accessibility for all. Through this process, EITS has implemented a Siteimprove Monitoring environment, other tools, policies and procedures, to address areas of concern and assist agencies in managing their web content for this purpose.

    ADA Assistance Program

EITS webteam expanded the Assistive Technology (AT) outreach by creating a new website, ADA Assistance program, where users can report ADA complaints, request information, request Document remediation, and provide feedback. This program tracks and reports progress and produces weekly status reports. ADA Assistance is now available to all website owners in the State of Nevada.

    Provide Training

Provide mandatory web accessibility training to all employees who write or develop programs or code for, or who publish final content to State of Nevada websites (Web content Personnel) on how to conform all web content and services with, at minimum, WCAG 2.1 AA.

    State Policies and Procedures

Establish Website Accessibility Practices and Procedures to ensure that persons with disabilities are included.  These polices should be available to all Web Content Personnel and all personnel who receive and/correspond to inquiries and complaints  about accessibility.
